The House Security and Defense Committee Member, Waad Qaddo, said that compulsory military law is a priority for the Security and Defense Committee.

Qaddo also said, “The House of Representatives will make the final vote on the compulsory military law.”

In May, Commander-in-chief of the Iraqi armed forces spokesperson Lieutenant General Yahya Rassoul said that Iraq needed a compulsory martial law that was sidelined in 2003. 

Iraq has a very young demography, with almost 60 percent of its population being under 25; a huge pool of reserves could strengthen the Iraqi army to confront its neighbors as its struggles to repel incursions into its territory.
