People Defense Forces announced that "36 Turkish soldiers were killed and three others wounded in attacks carried out by the People's Defense Forces (HPG) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq."

While the Turkish Defense Ministry announced five PKK guerrillas dead in their attacks on the PKK. These numbers refer to the recent clashes between the PKK and the Turkish Army. 

Ankara launched Operation Claw-Lock on the morning of April 17. The operation covers a large area in the north of the Kurdistan region. The Turkish defense ministry said that the operation was aimed at limiting PKK's activity scope, especially in Matina, Zab, and Avasheen areas. 

These regions lie deep within the Kurdistan region territory. Turkish war against the PKK in the region has displaced hundreds of villagers on the Turkish-Kurdistan region border areas.
