Today, Saturday, Iraqi Joint Operations Lieutenant Spokesperson Tahsin Khafaji, told Kurdsat English that the two joint brigades of the Iraqi army and Peshmerga would begin serving after the approval of the budget. The 2023 Budget has been a controversial one with numerous amendments.

The duty, region of deployment, and equipment of the joint Peshmerga and Iraqi army units are done, per the spokesperson.

The spokesperson also said that the ranks of the joint units are withheld until the 2023 budget is approved.

The vacuum developed between the Iraqi armed forces and the Peshmerga forces helps ISIS regroup and attack Iraqi civilians and armed personnel as it has done in the past; creating a joint unit would allow the armies navigate the vacuum without political friction between Baghdad and Erbil.
