On November 17, two hundred published from 20 countries gathered in Sulaimani, Kurdistan region, and launched the fourth International Book Fair in Sulaimani that lasted ten days. KurdSat Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) was the media sponsor of the event.

According to the fair's organizers, over half a million people have visited the book expo. "Over half a million readers have entered the exhibition in the past ten days, and if each visitor has bought two books, then a million book is sold," Haji Hassan, organizer of the expo, told KurdSat English.

Hundreds of students, academics, and ordinary people gather at the Sulaimani Book Fair every year to get hold of the books they want. "Books sold here are on a discount; we have made a huge discount for our books," a bookseller at the exhibition said.

Sulaimani is the Kurdistan region's cultural hub, home to many poets, writers, and academics. Opening the expo, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Enlightenment Muhamad Saed said they would continue supporting such initiatives and work to set up a national library. Sulaimani Governor Haval Abubakir said they had spoken with many European countries to share their national libraries with the Kurdistan region. The UK is the first to come forward positively.

Most unofficial figures suggest that the number of readers in the Kurdistan regionhas decreased overtime, with young people spending most of their time scrolling on social media.
