PUK president seeks to unite Kurdistan region parties to settle Erbil-Baghdad disputes

PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani is chairing a meeting of leaders of the Kurdistan region parties in Dukan, Sulaimani, on November 24, 2022.

Today, Thursday, PUK President Talabani chaired a summit that included all parties of the Kurdistan region except the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

Director of PUK Bureau of Kurdistan region diplomatic affairs, Salar Sarhad, said in a statement that "his bureau has invited the first person of all political parties in the Kurdistan Region to meet and discuss the situation in the Kurdistan region."

Leaders of the Goran Movement Omar Said Ali, Kurdistan Justice Group Ali Bapir, Islamic Union of Kurdistan Salahadin Bahadin, and Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party Mohammed Haji Mahmoud were greeted by President Bafel in Dukan, in Sulaimani.

Sarhad said the leaders discuss disputes between the Kurdistan region and Iraq; the PUK works to join efforts with the parties in the region to resolve the problems per the constitution to serve the people's interests.

"The topics under discussion are all national and topics concerning the public," KurdSat English reporter Rebaz Hiwa in Dukan said.

PUK efforts led to the overturning of some decisions against Kurds in the disputed territories; yesterday Kurdish language was restored to medical licenses following calls from PUK MPs and leaders.

KRG expected to resume oil export

Israeli Defense Minister announces 'complete siege' on Gaza

Earlier on Sunday, footage from both Ashkelon and Sderot cities also showed army tanks in the streets as they reportedly moved towards the border with Gaza.

On Saturday, Hamas launched its biggest attack on Israel in decades, firing thousands of rockets and sending fighters who infiltrated Israeli towns near the Gaza Strip. The group said its attack was in response to Israeli violations in the flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in occupied East Jerusalem and increased settler violence.

At least 700 Israelis, including 73 Israeli soldiers, have been killed and over 2,300 others wounded in the attack, according to the Israeli Health Ministry.

Israel retaliated, with the Israeli army initiating Operation Swords of Iron against Hamas with a series of airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, killing more than 430 Palestinians and wounding at least 2,300 others.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to use all of Israel’s strength to destroy Hamas’ capabilities and “take revenge for this black day.”
